No bikers, no cell phones, no rice, no noodles, no TV, no guns, no snowmobiles, no jet skis, no Nickleback, no Liberals, no Conservatives, no British, no Irish, no Scottish, no Motel 6 and no cigarettes.

Why no Motel 6? I haven't heard that story.

Only ever stayed once at Motel 6. That's before we knew of its bad reputation. One night, many years ago, we stopped off at M6 in Lima OH, because it was snowing too hard to drive any further. That night was quite an experience, but I just chalked it up to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. By the next night we were in Atlanta and I stopped at another M6. It had been a long day of driving and, as is my custom, the first thing I did when we got into the room was to open up a cold beer. While I was drinking the beer my wife was busy unpacking some things and getting ready for the night. She turned on a lamp and let out a shriek. The room was infested with cockroaches.

Right away she pulled down the covers on the bed to see if there were any bugs in it. There weren't even any sheets on the bed. Just a filthy, stained mattress. We went back down to the desk and told the clerk we couldn't stay there and we wanted a refund. He gave us our refund, but only after he sent the security guy up to the room to see if we had used the bed. Must have thought we just went into the room for a quick jump. I've since learned that quick jumps are the purpose of many visits to M6. Since then, we've never ever stopped at Motel 6.

Wow, I've stayed in many a Motel 6 and have had almost completely positive experiences. Stay at the Howard Johnson if you have to stay in Lima again. It's a former Holidome. I love that place.

i would rather sleep on a piss stained mattress under an overpass than stay at a m6, hojo or a ramada.

Amen to that. The worst hotel I ever stayed in was a HoJo in downtown Toronto. The room stunk and it had one electrical outlet for the entire room. It was right down by the baseboard, so if you wanted to use it for an electric razor or anything else, you had to get down on your knees of the filthy carpet.

When I commented to another guest, on the elevator the next morning, he said there was still a chalk outline of a body, in the hallway, on his floor.

I've heard that Motel 6 in Canada aren't bad. They actually build new hotels under the brand. In the U.S. Motel 6 usually open up in old, run down properties that have been abandoned by the better chains. There is no affiliation between M6 in the U.S. and in Canada. The Canadian chain is merely paying for the rights to use the brand. I can't understand why they would want to. It has to be a liability, more than it is an asset.
