Your favorite Morning shows

When I was a kid, I LOVED St.James and Harper on WNIC. When St. James went to WMJC, he and Elliot had a good show and Harper and Gannon were also great, but it was never the same to me.

Also, Dick Purtan on CKLW, loved him over there!

JP on JR of course! I remember a big building downtown with his face painted on the side of it and it said "Listen-there's a lot to discover. WJR Radio 76."

These days, I am really fond of Mike and Lisa on CKLW. As far as I'm concerned, its one of the best morning shows I've ever heard. Totally underrated. Mike and Lisa have great chemistry and they are interesting people too.

I wasn't in control of a radio in the morning until high school - elementary school was 2 blocks away and jr. high was 1/2 mile. There was no car radio in the am, and mom pretty much had WOMC on back then (1970s) MA in the AM anyone? Radio in the summer was pretty much an afternoon/evening thing until high school too.

My first year of high school in 10th grade was right when WHYT came to be, and the Hot Hits were the soundtrack of the drive to school pretty much that whole year. We'd sample some JJ and the Morning Crew too, but that was about it.

I've always been a listener of a variety of formats - I remember listening to a lot of WKSG 102.7 when they went Oldies - Paul Christy, and really enjoyed the fun that Kevin O'Neill had doing mornings there. He and Lesley Quinn really knew how to laugh. A lot.

In the 90s, I went through a long country phase - and pretty much was locked on to Joe Wade Formicola on W4, then later Dr. Don on WYCD too. If not those guys, I'd be listening to Purtan or WDFN. Yeah, I remember Butch and Lary... and 3G ... Jamie and Brady ... and so on.

These days? I spend my mornings on SiriusXM's 60s on 6 listening to Phlash Phelps.

I enjoyed Jeff "Zippy" Crow's time on The River in the mid-1990s.

Dave Morey on KFOG really was the gold standard for me. I hope he's enjoying his retirement up in Traverse City.

Beyond that, I don't really have the love for many of the morning guys you guys did when you were younger. As a teenager and a younger listener, I just wanted music in the morning. I more or less still do as an adult. Those two were more the exception than the rule.

Growing up with no radio control, early-mid '60s -- it was WJR's Bud Guest with my dad and morning cereal before school.

Later, it was Morrie Carlson, including sports with Vince Doyle, on WWJ-AM -- "That's a Morrie!"

With my first clock radio, it was usually WABX in high school, then WDET in first years of college, early-mid '70s. Actually, what I listened to in the morning depended on what I crashed to the night before.

While he had a very hard act to follow, Tom Ryan did an excellent job on CKLW after Dick Purtan left. It was destined to fail as hardly anyone listened to music on AM anymore but he put together a great show tying in Count Scary and other characters.

I was also a fan of the short lives 'Dr. Chris & Jose' show that debuted on WHYT along with the debut of that station.

Paul Christie and Damone on Kiss FM (Oldies) 102.7 had a great show in the late 80's.
