WKXA Findlay to go Country

Postby Larkin » February 10th, 2012, 6:45 pm

I have it on pretty good authority that this station will go from Classic hits to Country on Valentine's day.

It makes total sense from a business stand point, I'm sure they'll do well.
But I think they'll be getting a new audience because let's face it.....you either LOVE country or you HATE it. :P

They didn't like their old audience? It always amazes me how a radio station can just kiss off a loyal audience, just to chase after the audience of a competing station.

Very unusual that their website, along with their sister stations, has the upcoming format change listed under their news section. I always thought that format flips were usually kept secret by the company until it happened.

I think they want to build excitement and anticipation. It makes sense because this company also owns Eagle 106.3, which is a classic rocker. It makes sense to make KXA different. I was told they go from Nirvana to Gordon Lightfoot and then into a Michael Jackson song. They were "Rockin' Hits" for many years, and if they had on Lightfoot and Jackson then they had lost their way.

Agreed. Unless you skew towards softer rock (like Lightfoot and Jackson), classic hits and classic rock aren't that much different at times.

BTW - when you mention Nirvana, it doesn't seem like they could be Classic anything - until you realize that the "Nevermind" CD, along with Soundgarden's "Superunknown" and Pearl Jam's "Ten" (which I bought all at the same time) all came out in the summer of 1991  (21 years ago)  . I remember this specfically, as I was living in Royal Oak at the time, listening to 102.7 Z-Rock, remember hearing Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" one of the first times while driving down I-75 in Auburn Hills and just CRANKING IT UP!!!
