So, I have Sat Rad again

Postby Larkin » April 18th, 2011, 10:40 pm

I get a free year of Sirius-XM with my new vehicle. I had this from 2008-09.

Not much has really changed. I still see that the company is called "Sirius-XM" but you don't get all the XM channels. No baseball, no hockey for instance. The music channels seem to be really good, I like the decades system like I did before and the 40's station and also Escape continue to offer music I won't hear anywhere else, so that's positive. Sound quality is good too on all the channels. The Rawdog and Stern channels and the no holds barred political stations are no good to me. Not with the kids in the car, but the sports anytime I want it is cool, and I like the CBC channel as well. I'd still like to see the satellite channel get some over the air stations like WCBS or something to listen to for news. Of course, I can use my cell phone and plug it into my radio and do that, I'm just thinking of other customers that don't do that. I think I'll get NFL with my Sirius-XM and the NBA is there, but like I said, no MLB or NHL. I just don't get it, if its a merger then why am I not seeing the same service on both systems......three years later?!

Anyway, the price is right. I doubt I'll renew in 2012, but I'll enjoy it for the next 12 months for free.

I got a year free in my car and I just renewed last month. I wouldn't want to be without it. When we were in Florida I listened only to over the air radio. But on the trip down and the trip home, the only thing available over the air, in the south, is cowboy music, NASCAR and religion.

Whenever I've been on the road in the middle of nowheresville, I've almost invariably been able to pick up public radio from somewhere. Is that not the case now in Dixieland?

Sometimes, but they'r generally low power and it seems like you constantly have to keep tuning the dial to find the next one within range. In the mountainous areas of TN and KY it is some times difficult to find one at all with a decent signal.

While it was a merger, their non music programming is still considered "separate" - which means I, as a XM subscriber, would have to pay extra for those channels (i.e. Stern, NFL, NBA, Playboy Radio) that are exclusive to Sirius and part of the "Best of Sirius" package. Not worth it to me...
