A Computer Question

Postby turkeytop » November 28th, 2011, 4:40 pm

I create a file and save it on my hard drive. For backup purposes I also save it on my USB stick.

The next time I modify the file and click "save", will it save the changes in both locations?

Nope. Only the one it "remembers". If it's not clear which is which, choosing 'save as' should show you the folder and device it's going to save to.

So to save it to an alternate location, do I need to just replace the existing file in that location, every time?

If you backup the files to the stick, it will overwrite the old files.

So for example, if the file is called xyz, and I have saved the file on the hard drive and then copied and pasted it to the stick. Now I modify the file and save the changes on the hard drive. Can I just copy and paste the file again on to the stick, and the old file will go away? I'm a computer dope.

Sure. It'll probably give you a message saying you're about to overwrite the file on the stick and show you the date each file was last changed as well as their sizes and asking you to confirm. Helps avoid any accidents.
